Arriving home after being gone for ten days we had lots to do as well as getting back into mom's routine. Swim early Monday morning and then I was tackling the loads and loads of laundry, two weeks of mail, bills, etc. It's a good thing we made Salsa in late July as no one attended the garden while we were gone..... we had cucumbers bigger than zucchini should be and zucchini big enough to be base bats. Our tomatoes did well this year we made of 45 pounds of tomatoes into salsa. But the peppers were nuthin........ racoons got the corn, bugs ate the califower, lettuce and onions didn't go much. Berries a few hope to have more next year. We picked berries out in the woods and Roger got over 20 gallons. He was obessed. Now I have berries fermenting inthe living room. I did make several batches of blackberry jelly and froze 4 gallons for fresh berries later...
Our Cannes did beautifully this year but the banana trees did not. I'm sure most of it is contributed to the fact it remained so cool from July 1 on. Monday afternoon 17th we had a huge wind storm. Rained some but mostly wind. It blew down this tree. The tree was over 4 stories high and 3 1/2 to 4 feet in diameter at the base. It took Roger and I the next 6 days to get it completely to the ground. It missed the neighbors fence by about 3 feet. The up side to all of it was my garden will get a lot more sun in the future do to this monster being down. We were so thankful it didn't do any damage to our neighbors yards as most of it was over there.
